Did some body issue or pass you a bad check?
New Hampshire RSA 638:4 allows a person who issues a Bad Check to remedy the check and all REASONABLE COSTS within 14 days.
What this means to you and the most advisable course of action for you would be the following:
1) Some one issues you the check and when you deposit it, it is returned for insufficient funds.
2) Send the person a certified letter advising them of the Bad Check and all fees incurred by you for the check
3) The letter must advise them they have 14 days to make good on the check and the fees incurred by you
4) At the end of the 14 days, if no payment is made then bring the original check (keep a copy for yourself), a copy of the certified letter, along with your information to the police department
5) The police department will try to obtain payment on the check and fees first.
6) Failing in that we will begin Criminal Proceedings.
IMPORTANT: If when you receive the check back it is marked ACCOUNT CLOSED, no certified letter is required and the information can be turned over to the Police Department immediately.
